Animated Mining Maps

By Fhqwghads/Trogdoor of Ifrit

Here's some animated mining maps that I have created in order to show a somewhat efficient path through the areas that can be mined. In addition to mining points, the maps also contain information on Notorious Monsters, their locations, and their images in some cases. Also provided are quest locations, and other points of interest.

Yughott Grotto For level 30+ in lower area, high 30's in upper area.

Gusgen Mines For level 40+ in first level, mid/upper 50's in the lower levels. Watch out for Foul Meat and Juggler Hecatomb if you are below level 59. If I remember correctly they aggro to everyone under that level.

Oldton Movalpolis For level upper 50's+.

Ifrit's Cauldron It doesn't matter what level you are here, everything will aggro, even to level 75. My advice is a combination of a job that can cast Sneak, and a NIN for Tonko. Tonko is very important, as the majority of the areas only need invisible, and the bombs aggro to magic with the exception of Ninja magic. Watch out for bats in the outdoor sections at night, too, as they will aggro to sound. Mobs that do not aggro: bees, lizards, and opo-opo. Also note that nothing in this area is true-sight. This is a silly misinformation that some people in the community perpetuate. I have danced circles around the Ash Dragon and Vouivre, and can state personally that they do not aggro if you have sneak+invis. Some people have found Vouivre isn't aggressive at all, although I have never had a chance to test this as his fellow hurricane wyvern buddies are always around him. If anyone states that they are true-sight, it's because they made a mistake and let sneak or invisible drop around them, or someone in their party did. I believe the Ash Dragon will aggro all members of a party if even one of them loses either sneak or invisible around his aggro range.

Mining advice:

Skill up smithing and goldsmithing both to 20 while you mine. Almost everywhere there are mining points, items will be mined that you can skill up on. Bring stacks of fire crystals to do this. The goal is to make ingots out of iron and silver, which can then be sold at a decent profit. This is important to do, as ores don't stack, and you will reduce your chances of getting the rare ores if your inventory fills up becase you can't smelt iron and silver into ingots.

I usually bring about 6 stacks of pickaxes with me. This is usually enough to get a decent amount of quality ore, as well as get me well on the way to a stack each of silver or iron ingots.

If you need Norg fame, don't toss that Zinc ore! Yes, you will get a lot of it, but it's better than having to buy it off the auction house for ridiculous prices, or finding out that there's none on the auction house at all.

Don't skimp on the field or worker gear! It reduces pickaxe breakage and it's also believed to increase your chances of scoring rare ores.

Be prepared for pickaxe breakage! It happens all the time. That's why you can't go mining with only a couple of pickaxes. You'll run out before you're able to mine even 3 points.

Watch out for suspected gil sellers. If you decide you like mining, you will notice the same low ranked people in the mines everytime you log on and do a /sea "area name here". These are the people who ruin mining as a source of income, since they populate the mines 24/7, usually in teams, which makes it next to impossible for normal players to find any active and unoccupied mining points. They also have no qualms about mining your points. If they are not anon, you will usually find they are low rank, and barely at the level where they no longer get aggro (with the exception usually of my buddy Juggler Hecatomb, hehe.) The only danger from these jerks is as I mentioned, not finding mining points, get a mining point that you're working on mined by them, and sometimes being cussed at by them if you mine their points (even though they mine yours.)
